Canoe Kayak NB has four pillars of operation: safety, education, heritage and environment. Of these four pillars of operation, the primary mandate is to provide safe paddling instruction in New Brunswick. Consequently, there exists a mutually beneficial relationship between CKNB and the recreation program at the College. As a result, CKNB offers a scholarship, the Bill Palmer Scholarship, to worthy candidates to further their educational and paddling development. For information on Bill Palmer please see: Paddling Wall of Honour: Bill Mason & Bill Palmer from the CKNB links page under Heritage/Culture.
To further assist the program at NBCC, CKNB has made available a trailer and paddling equipment to the College over the past many years.
In examining CKNB's educational role and contributions to that role by the College, please note the following; specifically, the addition of new paddling instructors (two new flatwater instructors and 7 sea kayak instructors) and the provision of paddling skills courses also registered with CKNB. The course participant numbers in 2008 through the college for the skills courses are: eight (8) in the flatwater canoeing, eight (8) in the canoe moving water, seven (7) in the advanced sea kayaking, eight (8) in the flatwater kayaking, four (4) in river kayaking and sixteen (16) in canoe tripping. For the size of the province, New Brunswick holds a valued position for courses offered in relation to the rest of Canada. The courses offered at the college obviously contribute to that valued position.
In 2008, CKNB tasked itself to complete a marketing survey. That task was taken on by students of the Adventure recreation program in saint Andrews as part of their scholastic program. CKNB values the work done completed by the students but is also pleased to be able to offer development and learning through such a practicum.
CKNB recognizes and supports the Adventure Recreation Program at NBCC, Saint Andrews.

Book Reviews
CKNB receives prepublication copies of books on outdoor activity from time to time and asks instructors, local clubs or local subject-matter experts to review them. These views reflect the reviewer’s opinions, and CKNB neither endorses nor sanctions them in any way direct or indirect.
CKNB members are invited to submit reviews of books, CD's, or other material on the technical or historical aspects of paddling to the Communications Officer.

PROTECT CANADA'S RIVERS AND STREAMS!
The Canadian 'Navigable Waterways Protection Act' (NWPA) is a law to protect Canada's rivers and streams. It is currently being reviewed by the federal government "to eliminate a developer's obligation to consider impacts on navigation when building dams, bridges, causeways or other invasive structures on thousands of waterways across Canada".
Get informed! This potential change in Canadian law affects our New Brunswick rivers. To get involved in protecting Canada's rivers and streams follow these links for information on a letter writing campaign and to sign national petition.
