INSTRUCTORS WEEKEND - September 20 & 21, 2008
Instructor Weekend a Success!
CKNB completed its 2nd Annual Instructor Weekend. Twelve instructors from across N.B. spent the weekend sharing ideas and refining their flatwater/lakewater skills in canoeing & kayaking.
We were honored to have the first president of CKNB, Dave White, join us for supper. Dave gave a brief talk on the birth of CKNB and the importance of involving youth in paddling. Following dinner, Rob Lemmon gave us an update on Canoe Tripping and how its changed over the past few years. A brief instructor meeting was also held to discuss various issues including instructor certification and prerequisites, development of new courses, and a long term plan for instructor courses.
Thanks to Evan Young, our 2008 President, we were able to raffle off two paddles, compliments of Bluewater Canoe (winners: Rob Lemmon, Dave White), and a $300 gift certificate from Nova Craft (winner: Joe Miller). Each participant also received one free ticket on the Encore Canoe by Vermont Canoes that CKNB will be raffling off at the AGM.
Plans are already underway for next fall. We will be canoeing/poling the Little Southwest Miramichi on Sept. 26 & 27, 2009. All instructors are invited to attend, so please mark your calendars now!
Kudos to our Technical Director, Gig Keirstead, for organizing a great weekend at Adairs Lodge & Cabins on the Kingston Peninsula!
